In the wake of the Hodgepocalypse, the former province of Canada has become a mystical and perilous wonderland known as the Columbia Wasteland. It is now a patchwork of magic, technology and ancient forces. The land is teeming with supernatural phenomena, mystical creatures and remnants of a world altered by catastrophic events. Adventurers entering the Columbian Wastelands are thrus into a realm of danger where the very fabric of Reality has been reshaped.
The Regions of Woe
The Hodgepocalypse left its mark. Seismic activity skyrocketed causing a
massive loss of population, followed by intensive province wide forest fires,
and that’s before the return of magic changed the region irreversibly. While the area has stabilized since those
dark times, it has affected the land drastically:
The Cannibal Coast:
Stretching along the western shoreline of British Columbia,
the Cannibal Coast earned its grim moniker due to the presence of deadly
predators and unsettling rumors of cannibalistic creatures. The untamed
wilderness is teeming with magical anomalies that have given rise to fearsome,
man-eating birds and other mysterious beings.
The Cannibal Coast is shrouded in mystery and rumor. Stories of
cannibalism, blood rituals, and strange ceremonies are whispered among the
settlements that dot the coastline. While some of these tales may be
exaggerated or based on fear, there are instances where the gruesome rumors are
grounded. The characters must navigate through a web of truth and fiction as
they explore the treacherous terrain.
The Islands of Discovery:
Situated off the Cannibal Coast, the Islands of Discovery
are a series of secluded landmasses housing the Elysium Corporation's
clandestine research facilities. These geodesic domes and controlled
experiments provide insight into the Corporation’s true motives in the
Hodgepocalypse British Columbia region.
Coast and Cascade Mountains:
While this mountain chain is responsible for the rainforest
along the coast, it is also a place of high volcanic activity. The Garabaldi Volcanic belt belches white ash
from time to time and often act as portals to other dimensions. Where there isn’t fire, there’s ice as
numerous icefields and glaciers spread out through this region. Even the
comparatively dormant mountains are home to Ungo Communities as well.
Interior Plateau:
This region is split up into multiple high elevation areas
of habitation. This is the new heartland
of the region as the settlements are most likely to be inhabited in this
region. This is an area of farmland an
small towns. Sections of the plateau
have become floating terraces, hovering above the ground. These terraces are
accessible through magical elevators that respond to the intentions of those
seeking passage. Each floating terrace harbors unique ecosystems and surprises. The plateau resonates with a harmonic echo, a
melodic hum that responds to the thoughts and emotions of those who traverse
the region. The echo can be harnessed by skilled individuals for communication,
healing, or even manipulating the environment.
Canyons crisscross the plateau, and the winds that rush through them
carry whispers of ancient secrets. Those who navigate the windswept canyons may
uncover hidden truths about the plateau's mystical history.
Okanagan Valley:
The valley is now dotted with vineyards, each controlled by
a different faction of post-apocalyptic survivors. These factions, once
ordinary people, have developed unique abilities or characteristics based on
the mystical energies present in the region. The wines produced by each faction
are sought after for their magical properties, from healing elixirs to potions
that enhance one's senses. In response
to the unpredictable and magical nature of the land and each other, residents
have developed floating farms. These farms hover above the ground, moving with
the ebb and flow of magical energies. They produce crops that are not only
sustaining but also imbued with unique properties.
Northern Wilderness:
The vast northern reaches of the Columbian Wasteland are
sparsely populated, with expansive forests, rivers, and wildlife. It is known for the Aurora Nexus, the
northern lights, already a natural wonder, have become a magical phenomenon
known as the Aurora Nexus. This swirling display of colors is a gateway to
other dimensions, and during certain celestial alignments, creatures, and
energies from these realms spill into the wilderness. The Aurora Nexus is both
a mesmerizing spectacle and a source of great peril. Another side effect of the region, is the
wildlife in the northern wilderness has adapted to the magical energies,
evolving into luminescent creatures that illuminate the night. This area is also an extension of the boreal
forests and includes both normal conifers and the psychic crystal forests
patches that have their own share of dangers and opportunity.
Rocky Mountains:
While a stone’s throw away from Jargon’s realms in Alberta, they
have their own unique properties. The
peaks of the Rocky Mountains in British Columbia are ephemeral, materializing
and dematerializing at irregular intervals. This phenomenon adds an element of
unpredictability to the landscape, with adventurers never entirely sure which
summits will be visible or accessible at any given time. Deep within the mountainous terrain, hidden
astral passages connect the British Columbia Rockies to mystical realms.
Travelers who discover these passages can traverse between the physical and
astral planes, encountering otherworldly beings and uncovering ancient secrets. Some of the mountain peaks are crowned with
celestial calderas that radiate celestial energy. These calderas serve as
conduits to the realms beyond the stars, attracting extraterrestrial entities
and providing a source of potent magical energy for those who can harness it.
